Born in Santiago de Cuba in 1939, Mas Canosa was just 22 years old when he fled his homeland in the wake of the Cuban Revolution. He arrived in the United States with nothing but the clothes on his back and a determination to build a new life for himself.

Mas Canosa settled in Miami, Florida, and quickly established himself as a successful businessman. He founded several companies, including MasTec, which became one of the largest telecommunications construction companies in the world. He also played a key role in the development of the Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami.

In addition to his business success, Mas Canosa was also a passionate advocate for the Cuban people. He founded the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF),which has been instrumental in providing humanitarian aid to Cuba and in promoting democracy and human rights on the island.

Mas Canosa's life was cut short in 1997 when he was assassinated by a Cuban exile. However, his legacy continues to live on through his family, his businesses, and the organizations he founded.
