About the Author

Harvey Fierstein is a Tony Award-winning playwright, actor, and screenwriter. He is best known for his plays Torch Song Trilogy and Hairspray, both of which he also starred in. Fierstein has also written several other plays, including Safe Sex, Casa Valentina, and A Catered Affair. He has also appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Mrs. Doubtfire, Independence Day, and Nurse Jackie.

Fierstein is a recipient of the Tony Award for Best Play for Torch Song Trilogy and Hairspray, as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play for Torch Song Trilogy and Casa Valentina. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2007.
