Early Life and Education

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest of six children born to Augustine and Mary Washington. His father was a wealthy planter and his mother was a devout Christian. Washington's early education was provided by tutors at home. He later attended the College of William & Mary, where he studied mathematics, surveying, and other subjects.

Military Career

Washington's military career began in 1753, when he was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in the Virginia militia. He served in the French and Indian War, where he gained valuable experience in military strategy and leadership. In 1775, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, which fought for American independence from Great Britain.

The American Revolution

Under Washington's leadership, the Continental Army fought a long and bloody war against the British. Washington's leadership was instrumental in the American victory. He was a brilliant strategist and a skilled tactician. He also had the ability to motivate his troops and keep them fighting, even in the face of adversity.

The Presidency

After the war, Washington was unanimously elected as the first President of the United States. He served two terms in office, from 1789 to 1797. During his presidency, Washington established many of the traditions and institutions of the American government. He also led the country through a period of economic growth and prosperity.

Legacy

George Washington retired from public life in 1797. He returned to his home at Mount Vernon, where he lived until his death in 1799. Washington's legacy is immense. He is considered one of the greatest military leaders and statesmen in American history. His leadership and vision helped to create the United States, and his principles continue to guide the nation today.
