In 1775, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, which fought for American independence from Great Britain.
The American Revolution
Under Washington's leadership, the Continental Army fought a long and bloody war against the British. Washington's leadership was instrumental in the American victory. He was a brilliant strategist and a skilled tactician. He also had the ability to motivate his troops and keep them fighting, even in the face of adversity.
The Presidency
