Ed Porky Oliver was one of the greatest golfers of his generation. He won 20 PGA Tour events, including the 1959 PGA Championship. Oliver was also a member of the 1957 and 1959 Ryder Cup teams.

Oliver was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1928. He began playing golf at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the game. He won the Texas Amateur Championship in 1949 and 1950, and turned professional in 1951.

Oliver quickly established himself as one of the top players on the PGA Tour. He won his first PGA Tour event, the St. Petersburg Open, in 1954. He went on to win 19 more PGA Tour events, including the 1959 PGA Championship. Oliver was also a member of the 1957 and 1959 Ryder Cup teams.

Oliver was known for his long drives and accurate iron play. He was also a very good putter. He was one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour and was known for his friendly personality and his sense of humor.

Oliver retired from the PGA Tour in 1974. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1984.
