In this groundbreaking book, acclaimed sociologist Eduardo Bonilla-Silva argues that race is not a biological or natural category, but rather a social and political construct that is constantly being re-created and re-defined.

Bonilla-Silva shows how science, politics, and big business have played a key role in the re-creation of race since the end of the Civil Rights era. He argues that the rise of genetics and genomics has led to a new era of "racial essentialism," in which race is seen as a fixed and immutable characteristic.

At the same time, Bonilla-Silva shows how the political right has used race to divide and conquer the working class, and how big business has profited from the racial divide. He argues that the re-creation of race is a major threat to our democracy and to our future.

But Bonilla-Silva also offers a glimmer of hope. He argues that it is possible to challenge the re-creation of race and to create a more just and equitable society. He calls for a new social movement that will fight for racial justice and for the end of racism.
