The Early Years
Brooks Calbert Robinson was born on May 18, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the youngest of five children born to Calbert and Mary Robinson. Robinson's father was a truck driver, and his mother was a homemaker. Robinson grew up in a modest home, and he learned the value of hard work and perseverance from his parents.
Robinson began playing baseball at a young age, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the game. He was a gifted hitter and fielder, and he played on several Little League and Pony League teams.
In 1955, Robinson graduated from Little Rock Central High School. He was offered a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Arkansas, but he decided to sign a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles instead.
Baltimore Orioles
Robinson made his Major League debut with the Orioles in 1956. He quickly became a star, and he helped the Orioles win four World Series championships (1966, 1969, 1970, and 1971). Robinson was one of the best third baseman in baseball history, and he was known for his exceptional fielding skills.
Robinson was also a great hitter. He finished his career with a .267 batting average, 2,848 hits, 268 home runs, and 1,812 RBIs.
The Hall of Fame
Robinson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983. He was the first Orioles player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and he remains one of the most popular players in Orioles history.
Robinson's legacy is one of hard work, perseverance, and success. He was a great player on the field, and he was a great person off the field. Robinson is a true American hero, and his story is an inspiration to us all.
